Annotating PDFs

Last modified on

Sesame includes a full-featured PDF viewer allowing you to review, mark up, and annotate PDFs, such as collection exports, condition reports, and invoices, directly within the app.

Opening the document viewer and markup mode

To open a document in the markup viewer:

  1. Click or tap any PDF file stored in your Documents section or exported from a Selection.

  2. Tap the pen/annotation icon in the top-right toolbar to open the annotation toolbar at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Scroll, or use the page controls at the top (e.g., 1 / 3) and the zoom controls to navigate through multi-page documents.

Annotation toolbar features

The floating toolbar at the bottom of the screen provides a complete set of markup tools:

  • Selection & pointer tools: Select existing annotations to move, resize, or delete them.

  • Pen & highlighter: Freehand draw or highlight key text and areas of interest across pages.

  • Eraser: Remove specific drawing strokes or annotations.

  • Shapes & text boxes: Add standard geometric shapes (boxes, circles, lines) or type custom text notes directly onto the document.

  • Sticky notes & callouts: Leave pop-up commentary or descriptive notes for team review.

  • Signatures, stamps, & images: Insert pre-saved signatures, approval stamps, or external images onto the PDF.

  • Color & line controls: Choose stroke colours, adjust line weights, or pick predefined colour swatches.

  • Undo & redo: Instantly correct or revert recent drawing actions.

Saving and downloading annotated PDFs

  • Tap the checkmark button on the bottom toolbar to exit markup mode and save your changes to the document record.

  • Downloading marked-up files: Tap the Download icon (arrow pointing into a tray) in the top toolbar to save a local copy of the annotated PDF directly to your computer or device.

Note: when saved, the annotated PDF replaces the original PDF. However, it is easy to select any drawings, text boxes or sticky notes and delete them to return the PDF to its original state
