Add an artist

Creating dedicated profiles for artists, designers, brands, and manufacturers allows you to keep your collection metadata consistent, organised, and easily filterable across Sesame.

Accessing the creator modal

You can add a creator to your collection index in two ways:

• While editing an asset: Tap inside the Creator field on an artwork edit screen and select the option to add a new creator.

• From the main menu: Navigate to your creator index and tap the Add button.

Defining the creator type

At the top of the Add a creator modal, select the tab that best describes the origin of the work:

• Artist: Fine artists, painters, sculptors, printmakers, and photographers.

• Designer: Industrial, furniture, fashion, or object designers.

• Brand: Design houses, luxury studios, or luxury goods labels.

• Manufacturer: Production houses, fabricators, or historical foundries.

Completing profile details

Fill out the relevant metadata fields to build out the creator's record:

• Name (required): The primary display name (e.g., Pablo Picasso).

• Native name: Original script or full birth name (e.g., Pablo Ruiz Picasso).

• Nationality: Select the primary nationality from the dropdown menu.

• Birth place: Location of birth or founding (e.g., Málaga, Spain).

• Birth year & Birth date: Enter the birth year or full birth date using the calendar picker.

• Death year & Death date: For deceased creators, log the passing year or precise date.

• Description: Add a short biography, historical significance, or internal notes regarding their practice.

Once completed, tap Save to add the profile to your collection database.

Adding creator profiles makes filtering your collection seamless. You can filter or group your entire inventory by creator from the main collection view with a single click.

Adding creators on the fly during upload

When uploading or editing an artwork, you don't need to create the artist profile beforehand:

• Select an existing creator: Type a few letters into the Creator field and select from your existing index list.

• Create a new creator automatically: If the artist isn't in your list yet, simply type their full name into the field. Sesame will suggest to add them to your artist index so you can fill in their biographical details later.
