Heavy Lifting at Art SG

The crates are gone, the red dots are up, and the crowds have left Marina Bay Sands. Art SG 2026 has officially wrapped, and for the Eythos team, it was one for the record books.

As an Official Shippers for one of Southeast Asia’s most exciting new art fairs, we spent the last three weeks orchestrating the arrival of hundreds of artworks from across the globe. From customs clearance at Changi Airport to the final placement on the booth walls, our team was the invisible force moving the fair forward.

While we handled logistics for dozens of premier galleries, one project stood out for its sheer scale and precision: the monumental installation for Johyun Gallery.

Johyun Gallery × Lee Bae

Busan-based Johyun Gallery is known for presenting powerful, material-driven works, and for the 2026 edition of Art SG, they didn't hold back. Their presentation in the PLATFORM sector—dedicated to large-scale, site-specific installations—featured the work of the master of charcoal, Lee Bae.

The installation wasn't just a "hang"; it was a construction project.

Central to the booth was a massive bronze sculpture from Lee Bae's Brushstroke series. While it appears fluid and gestural to the viewer—like a stroke of ink frozen in three-dimensional space—the reality for our logistics team is pure physics.

  • Weight: Bronze of this scale is unforgivingly heavy. Moving it onto the carpeted fair floor required specialised rigging equipment and weight-distribution plates to protect the venue's substructure.

  • Precision: The sculpture had to be positioned to "dialogue" perfectly with the large-scale charcoal paintings on the surrounding walls. A difference of two inches changes the entire perspective.

Installing a piece of this magnitude during the chaotic "load-in" period of an art fair is a high-wire act. Forklifts are buzzing, aisles are blocked with crates, and time is tight.

Our installation team executed a precise choreography:

  1. Before the crate was even opened, we verified the floor load capacity and mapped the path from the loading bay to the PLATFORM sector.

  2. Using a gantry system, we lifted the bronze form from its custom crate to allow the gallery directors to approve the final orientation.

  3. Once the sculpture was anchored, we turned our attention to the Brushstroke paintings. Using laser levelling, we installed the 2-dimensional works to align visually with the curves of the bronze, creating the immersive "spatial experience" the artist intended.

Beyond the Booth

Johyun Gallery was just one highlight in a week of heavy lifting. Art SG 2026 proved once again that the art world relies on more than just curation; it relies on execution. Whether it was a delicate work on paper or Lee Bae’s bronze giant, we are proud to have been the hands that placed it there.
