Art Technician

Eythos is a trusted partner in the protection, storage, and movement of fine art and valuable assets. We serve a wide spectrum of clients, from private collectors to major galleries and institutions. We are seeking meticulous and dedicated Art Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for art and a strong attention to detail, ensuring the safe handling, transportation, and installation of artworks in various settings, including galleries, museums, private collections, and exhibitions. The Art Technician will work closely with curators, conservators, and other art professionals to maintain the integrity and condition of artworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely pack, unpack, and transport artworks using appropriate materials and techniques to prevent damage

• Assist in the installation and deinstallation of art exhibitions, ensuring precise placement and alignment of artworks

• Conduct condition reports and document the status of artworks before and after handling or transportation

• Collaborate with curatorial staff to prepare artworks for exhibitions, including framing, mounting, and display setup

• Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained

• Adhere to best practices in art handling, including knowledge of conservation techniques and environmental controls

• Provide excellent customer service to artists, collectors, and clients, addressing any concerns related to art handling and installation

• Stay informed about current trends and developments in the art handling and transportation industry

• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• 2+ years of solid experience as senior art handlers.

• High school diploma in Fine Arts, Museum Studies or a related field is preferred

• Proven experience in art handling, installation, or a related field is highly desirable

• Knowledge of art conservation and preservation techniques is a plus

• Familiarity with standard museum practices, terminology, and art history

• Must pass a complete background check.

• Ability to lift heavy objects and work physically demanding tasks, including climbing ladders and working in various environments

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

• Proficiency in using hand tools and equipment related to art handling and installation.

• A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are preferred.

• A candidate with less experience will be considered as an art handler.

Preferred Experience

• Forklift certification is a plus

• Rigging experience 

• Awareness and understanding of mounts, supports, and structures. Mount-making or framing experience is a plus

Working Conditions

• This position may require working evenings, weekends, or holidays, depending on exhibition schedules and events.

• The Art Handler may be exposed to various environments, including galleries, museums, and outdoor installations.
